My Experience in Chicago , Illinois. (Hull-House, Shed Aquarium and the Field Museum)

Chicago is a huge city with several well build tall buildings, it is located in the Midwest and the third largest city in the United States. Chicago is a vibrant city and a metropolitan area. I saw a lot of well known shopping stores in the world although l did not get the chance to window shop. Lake Michigan was the first impression l saw that reveals museums of art and science.

Hull House
According to Michael a tour representative, Hull House was a settlement house in the United States that was co-founded by Jane Adams and Ellen Gates. It is located in the West side of Chicago, Illinois State. Hull House opened its doors to many immigrant settles including Europeans and Mexicans immigrants. Hull house had innovative social, artistic and educational programs which made it to had grown a large number of settlement houses nationally. The most important things  l learned from the Hull House was the way Jane Adams use her own wealth which was left for her  by the father to give back to the community in order to bring social change, social reforms, educating the children. Jane Adams being a social activist she fought for the community to me l think human rights was her top priority even though she got several arrest warrant from the FBI but all that did not stop her mission. l was impress by the artistic design of sculpture of hands and the interesting photographs which gives knowledge on what use to happen during that time. l have also learnt when you want to make social change in the community, start from where you are even if you don't have anything its better to start from scratch than not to and its also wise to learn from others in the past and that is what South Sudan needs in order to move forward in terms of education and development.
In conclusion Jane Adams was a woman of substance, bold and courageous for her community.

my experience at the Midwest Conference of the comparative and International Education society (CIES) is one of the best experience at the school of  education that made me to gain more knowledge about the world in general since different participants were coming from different places around the continents and l socialized with some of them in oder to know more about their topics that captured my attention. Apart from that l learned a lot of things to do with research objective and methodology in one of the sessions where the researcher topic was identifying of school factors that contribute to low literacy acquisition of retention among female school dropouts the case study of Gambia and she used  ethnography method to collect her data l was like ok! there is such a method? I was kinder surprise when one of the presenter topic was of love and learning the case study was Zambian students conflicting desires in pursuit of sexual and economic capital at college of education. Her presentation was so interesting and what surprised me is the way she was so open and free to talk about examples to do with sexual view.

In conclusion indeed l learned a lot of things which all were beneficial to me in all of my course units these semester including social equity policy and the nearby future.

       

     
     

         what approach should South Sudan take in developing a history curriculum? And why....

  

According to me History curriculum of South Should not involve everything that should be taught in history education as the historian specialists say; the will never be enough space to teach everything in history therefore the people who should develop South Sudan history curriculum should be well trained and qualified teachers, scholars, professors  who have knowledge about the country's cultures, resources and ethnic groups. when developing the history curriculum it should be put exactly at the levels where the students need to learn for instance the story of origins, freedom, identity and progress so that it becomes part of their lives. The history curriculum should also include peace, civil rights movement as sub-topic so that the upcoming generation know war or attacking each other  is not the solution instead goals can be achieved in a peaceful way. Decision making(right decisions) should also be part of curriculum because these will make students analyze issues, formulate informed decisions and effectively communicate their message which will help them broaden their understanding of the world. 

                     I can say my experience has been similar to Dr. Julia's experience in only two ways that             is we all come from South Sudan, and a country which is still being affected by civil war in                 most of the regions and also the culture and the living style in Indiana is absolutely different.              Mostly my experience at Indiana is different to Dr. Julia experiences because l came as student            to gain knowledge and take it back home, as for Dr. Julia she came as refugee with her family              to settle in the United States particularly Indiana State and by Sudan was in the brick of war.
