TOPIC: New Untrained and Lacking Confidence.
Lack of training in emergencies situations E.g. Natural disaster or Conflict.
Teachers with no training in
emergencies places like South Sudan fail a lot due to the fact that they do not
have the knowledge and skills to teach or address the needs relevant to
children living in a post – conflict environment. Schools systems in South
Sudan are affected by the practice of new teachers due to lack of support
therefore they tend to create a cycle of failure among teachers and students in
the country. These reasons will give wrong information about teaching to the
communities for instance like being a teacher is not an important profession.
South Sudanese children deserve the world best teachers; education often represents
more opportunities for these children to attain a better life. These cannot
happen if post- conflict children don’t have access to well trained teachers.
In conclusion, helping new
teachers get better requires investments in educational leadership, which will
move the country forward in peace building and education for all. Secondly the
focus should be more on the needs of the untrained teachers and they should
link them to the few trained teachers. Lastly in order education to be the tool
of development in South Sudan it is important to have a solid understanding of
the technical capacity of a community to
implement education programs like
strategies to enhance girls participation and attainment.
Yes Joy,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that, training many women in the field of teaching will help the coming generation in many ways since most mothers are good model of behavior. but I believe who ever has gone to school has acquired knowledge and skills, but what he or she may lack is teacher training and class management.
Grace, this reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
Delete"Those who know do. Those who truly understand teach."
I can't remember who said this, but it was in the context of pedagogical content knowledge or the belief that you need to know both the subject and how to teach it! This is so important and I think the focus on teacher training is a significant part of this program.
Joy, you make many great points! I think working with teacher educators is a significant starting place as is improving the value of educators in communities.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Joy you are right. To have well trained teachers is of great significancy to the country that experiences crisis. Because, for this country to move forward, it needs people who have experience and are knowledgeable to teach those who don't know it.
ReplyDeleteI really agree with you because for this country to move forward it is our responsibility as educators of South Sudan to play our roles with what we are getting from here.
